Franco-Japanese cooperation intensifies

On 6 October 2026, the French Embassy in Japan convened a Decommissioning and Dismantling (D&D) Seminar in Tokyo. Represented by Hervé de Trémiolles, the CSFN opened the proceedings with a presentation on the organisation of the French nuclear industry, with particular emphasis on decommissioning. Olivier Bard (GIFEN) subsequently provided key figures on France's specialized D&D supply chain.
The week continued with a visit to the Fukushima Daiichi site, which the CSFN had previously visited in 2024. TEPCO’s work to treat cooling water continues to progress successfully.
The CSFN also participated in the annual N20 meeting between French and Japanese operators and industry partners. This year marked the 30th edition of this high-level meeting. On this occasion, the CSFN delivered a presentation on the French nuclear industry's adaptation to climate change.
In late September, the Hauts-de-France region organised the 5th edition of the Club Japon at the Senate, under the high patronage of the President of the French Republic. A dedicated session on nuclear energy highlighted the historical ties between the two countries.
Japan and France share the same vision of a closed fuel cycle, thereby strengthening their energy sovereignty. Both countries display the same ambitions to develop this competitive, low-carbon, and dispatchable energy source. Cooperation continues across numerous areas: R&D, operations, safety, skills development, and more.
This momentum illustrates the CSFN’s ongoing commitment to international cooperation and the development of nuclear energy, a key driver for the energy transition.
